For schools, Class 6–12

See what your students have understood, topic by topic.

TopicSlate is a learning log for Classes 6–12, following the NCERT syllabus. After a lesson, students write about what they understood in their own words. TopicSlate then automatically files each entry on the right topic’s shelf and checks it against that topic’s key ideas — so a teacher can see the class’s understanding topic by topic, and each student can see their own shelves fill.

History

The Indian National Movement

The shelf for this topic, as it stands today

  • ✓Why salt became the symbol of Civil Disobedience “every indian used it, so the salt tax touched rich and poor alike”
  • How different groups joined the movement, and why
  • What the Dandi march achieved politically

The same writing, filed by topic and marked against it.

The problem

Understanding is the hardest thing to see.

A test shows what a student can recall. Whether they can explain an idea in their own words is much harder to find out, for every student, in every subject.

📋
Recall and understanding can look the same. A student can reproduce a definition correctly before they are able to explain it.
⏱
Explanations take time to read. Going through every student’s writing closely enough to see which ideas are there is slow work.
🔍
Some gaps only show up later. A topic the class found difficult may not be visible until an exam or a later topic builds on it.
📚
Students rarely see their own gaps. A mark tells them how they did, not which ideas in a topic they have yet to explain.
How it works

The student writes. The rest is automatic.

Four steps. Only the first asks anything of the student.

01

The student writes

After a lesson, the student writes about what they understood, in their own words.

02

It finds the topic

TopicSlate recognises the topic from the sentence and puts the entry on that topic’s shelf — Motion & Kinematics, Mixtures & Solutions, The Mauryan Empire. If two topics genuinely fit, it asks the student which one they meant.

03

It marks what was explained

Every topic carries a checklist of the ideas it contains. Only the ones the student has explained are credited, each with their own words attached as proof.

04

The teacher sees the class

One screen per class: every topic with a bar, every idea with a count, every student with their own sentences.

Why schools choose it

Not another test platform.
A way to see understanding.

📈

The topic nobody wrote on

A bar per topic per class. The empty one is the finding: the topic that was taught, ticked off the plan, and never understood by anyone.

✎

Understanding, not recall

A student has to explain the idea in their own sentences. Reproducing the textbook line earns nothing.

📖

As per the syllabus

Every topic follows the NCERT syllabus your school already teaches, including the new books for Classes 6–9.

👥

Teacher dashboard

Teachers add the classes and subjects they teach, and see only those students.

📱

Nothing to install

It opens in a browser on any phone or laptop in the school. A registration code, a username, and the class is writing the same day.

What is inside

Built topic by topic.

Each topic is one a student would recognise from their own book, and each one carries a written list of the ideas it contains.

6–12Classes covered, in Science, Social Science and Mathematics
260+Topics across the whole syllabus
3,600+Ideas a student can explain, across those topics
Built for children

Safe by design.

✓ A parent agrees first
Under India’s DPDP Act, the account does nothing until a parent approves it. Recorded with a timestamp and the wording they agreed to, and withdrawable at any time.
✓ No student email address
Students sign in with a username the school issues. We never ask a student for an email address or a phone number.
✓ A mark must quote the student
No idea is credited on a guess. The exact words are checked against what the student wrote, and a credit that cannot be evidenced is dropped.
✓ No chat, no feed, no ads
No messaging, no comments, no other users to meet, no advertising. Students write and read their own shelves; that is the entire surface.
✓ Teachers see their own classes
A teacher reaches only the students of the school, class and section they teach. Nothing else in the school is visible to them.
